Richard has a BSc degree in electrical engineering from the University of Aston and a Masters degree in acoustic engineering from the University of Birmingham.
Prior to founding Scyron, he spent 15-years as the manager of the Wolfson Acoustics Unit at the University of Birmingham, School of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, specialising in the development of electronic and acoustic systems. Under his management the Wolfson Underwater Acoustics Unit obtained a number of design, evaluation and development projects including the development of diver navigation and beach surveying equipment, a system for the recovery of unmanned, tetherless submerged craft and the development of a high resolution echo sounder and ranging system for monitoring wave heights.
When visiting the US, Richard observed a child nearly drown in a swimming pool. This catalyst event inspired him to develop the concept behind Scyron
